Engaged & Overwhelmed? These Tips Will Take the Stress Out of Wedding Planning

Wedding planning can be stress-inducing, but you can spare yourself tons of headaches simply by being prepared. From wedding planning tips, helpful tools and even apps you can make wedding planning so easy your groom-to-be can manage it!

Stay Organized

Even if being organized isn’t your forte, now is the time to change that. The more organized you are, the less likely things will go wrong. Utilizing a wedding planner app that helps you keep track of your to-do list, RSVPs, and all the little details that come with wedding planning will save you tons of time.

If don’t want to use an app, an Excel sheet will work just as well. Plus, by using Google Sheets you can create a document that can be accessed by both you and your fiance. Or, if you’re a bit old fashioned a good old wedding binder and handwritten lists work just as well!

While you should use whatever platform works best for you, the important thing is to decide on a way to track your tasks and details and utilize it regularly throughout the wedding planning process.

Create A Personalized Checklist

There are tons of wedding checklists you can download off the internet, the problem with them is they likely have items on them that don’t apply to you. Instead, it’s a good idea to go through a few of them and create a list of the items that apply to you and that need to be completed. From there you can work to develop a timeline of your goals for completing each item. This will give you a clear idea of how fast you need to move and will be personalized according to the number of tasks you need to complete and how long you of an engagement you plan to have.

Set Aside Time Every Week to Plan

This doesn’t need to be an all-night planning session every week. In fact, after your first major planning session with your fiance, you will just need to have weekly check-ins to determine how much you’ve accomplished and if there have been any hiccups in your planning.

One great way to accomplish this is by having a standing dinner date once a week and either before or after dinner take a few minutes to review your checklist and then after “business” is taken care of, you can enjoy your date night!

Divide and Conquer

You and your fiance are a team, so while some tasks may require you both to tackle it, most things can be solved by dividing up responsibility and syncing back up at your weekly check-ins. For example, if your fiance isn’t picky about flowers, you can handle this task by yourself. Conversely, if you don’t have limo preferences, your fiance can manage that task solo. If you plan to divide and conquer it’s important to have a budget for each item on your list, in order to enable you or your fiance to make efficient decisions.

Read the Fine Print

It may feel tedious, but it’s important to read the fine print on all of the vendor contracts before signing them. Make sure you understand what you’re agreeing to and that the services you are paying for are exactly what you are expecting. For example, if you want to hire a limo to drive you from your ceremony and reception, and stop along the way for photos, make sure you have the option in your contract to make a stop. Don’t assume anything, instead, if you are unsure communicate your uncertainty to the vendor prior to signing.

Keeping all of these tips in mind, will make your wedding planning stress-free and maybe even fun!
